The work experience program can help students put classroom theory to practice.
It allows them to experience a real-world working environment, learn new skills and make valuable contacts.
The Deniliquin Pastoral Times has welcomed Year 10 student Chelsea Flannigan to its staff this week.
Chelsea is interested in gaining experience as a journalist and already has her own desk and working on her first solo article.
Check back on Friday for her report on the program, and other great stories she will be covering.
“We wish all of our Year 10 students the very best for their week of work experience,” Deniliquin High School said on its Facebook page.
“Thank you to all of our wonderful employers within our community for giving our students such a fantastic and worthwhile opportunity.”
Murphy selected for WTC final against India
Todd Murphy will be packing his bags for London after being named in the squad for the 2023 World Test Championship final.
Australia will play India in the final from June 7 to June 11, at the Oval in London.
Cricket Australia has just announced the 15-member squad.
Murphy has been named as the second spinner alongside Nathan Lyon.
The June/July tour will also feature the Ashes, which Murphy will be hoping to compete in.
The first Test of the five-match series between Australia and England will take place at Edgbaston fron June 16-21, five days after the WTC final.
News on Murphy’s selection came just before his father Jamie featured as guest speaker of the Deniliquin Golf Club’s Corporate Golf Day.
Photos from the day are on page 6 today, and results will appear in Friday’s Off The Tee column.
10 Minute Health Check on your doorstep
“Don’t hesitate to give 10 minutes of your busy day to get free basic health screening undertaken today. It could save your life.”
That is the message from travelling registered nurse Bill Power, who will be in Deniliquin this Friday and Saturday with Rotary’s Men’s Health Education Rural Van.
The ‘mherv’ project is, over the last five years, estimated to have saved more than 450 lives because of these free basic health checks.
You can check you blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood sugar levels in the van, and have a general quick chat about your health.
The van will be parked in the Deni CBD and is a free service.
Variety is the spice of life
The Variety Bash which stopped in Conargo, and passed through Deni, last week is now over.
The Bash started in Dubbo on May 21 and finished in Newcastle on Saturday.
Along the way, the Bashers visited numerous schools to donate money and have a bit of fun with the staff and students.
A final fundraising tally from the week long event, which had 300 participants, has not yet been finalised.
But video footage and photos of each leg of the trip, and their pit stops, can be found at the event’s Facebook page –
The local stops were on days three and four of the Bash.
Correction
Speaking of the Variety Bash, in our coverage of the Conargo visit in Friday’s edition we mistakenly referred to Kylie Charlton as the principal.
Kylie, who was at one time relieving principal, is back in her role as classroom teacher.
The principal at the school is Christine Smith, who unfortunately missed the rally’s visit due to commitments in Sydney.
