Wydad Casablanca have stunned Mamelodi Sundowns to set up a clash with Al Ahly in the 2023 CAF champions League final.
Cairo giants Al Ahly have reached the 2023 caf champions league final after beating Tunisian outfit Espérance Sportive de Tunis 4-0 on aggregate.
Having won the first-leg comfortably in Rades 3-0, Al Ahly managed to win 1-0 in Cairo, thanks to Hussein El-Shahat’s first-half winner.
The ten-time African champions will now look for their 11th title in their 16th final appearance against either Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in a repeat of last year’s final.
Wydad and Sundowns had played out a 0-0 draw in Casablanca in the first-leg, before both teams drew 2-2 in south africa for the Moroccans to win thanks to the away goal rule.
Five minutes into the second-half, themba zwane gave Sundowns the lead with a powerful shot from outside the box, before Ayoub El Amloud equalised in the 72nd minute with brilliant header.
Seven minutes later, peter shalulile put Sundowns ahead from close range; however, a header from Mothobi Mvala into his own net saw Wydad equalise once again and reach the final.
This will mark Wydad’s second consecutive final appearance and their third one against Al Ahly, having beat the Reds to win the title twice in 2017 and 2022.
The first-leg of the final will take place on June 4 in Cairo, before both teams meet up once again on June 11 in Casablanca.
