A huge controversy hit the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final as Shubman Gill was dismissed after a catch by Cameron Green. The dismissal divided opinions among the cricket fraternity, with no clarity on whether it was a clean catch. Many felt that the ball touched the ground before Green took control of it.

The 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final saw a major controversy on the fourth day of play as Cameron Green ‘s catch to dismiss Shubman Gill off Scott Boland at the stroke of the tea break invoked diverse reactions from the cricket fraternity.

On the last ball before the tea break, as India made a positive start in their massive chase of 444 at the Oval, Shubman Gill edged a delivery to Green in the slip cordon. The Australian all-rounder dived and pulled off an incredible one-hnaded take from his left hand.

However, the Indian players were not convinced by the decision, and the on-field umpires asked the third umpire to check. After multiple replays, the decision was declared out, much to the dismay of both Gill and Indian captain Rohit Sharma , who was later seen arguing with the umpire.
As social media went into a frenzy over the decision, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) took a brutal dig at Ricky Ponting . Ponting is in the commentator box for the big match. RR recalled the infamous Sydney Test in 2008, where Ponting’s catch to dismiss Sourav Ganguly was widely criticised. Surprisingly, Ganguly is also behind the mic for this match.

The Australian players were booed by the Oval crowd, and chants of ‘Cheater, Cheater,’ echoed around the stadium as the players walked back for the session break. Later, Green had to face the wrath of the Indian fans when he came on to bowl in the third session.

Talking about the match, India seem to be heading for defeat after losing both Rohit Sharma (43) and Pujara (27) before reaching the 100-run mark while chasing a massive total of 444. If India manage to get to the total, it will be the highest run-chase in Test cricket history. Gill was dismissed after making 18 in 19 balls while looking fluent.
