The second night of the Sportsbet Sandown Cup Carnival is on tonight at Sandown Park with finals of the Group 1 Sportsbet Sapphire Crown (515m) and Group 1 Sportsbet Harrison-Dawson (515m).
Four heats of the Group 1 Sportsbet Sandown Cup (715m) are being staged from Race 3 to Race 6.
The $160,500 Group 1 Sportsbet Sapphire Crown Final (Race 8 at 8:40pm) features three of the country’s best greyhounds including three-time Group 1 winner and dual Phoenix (525m) champion Wow She’s Fast.
The Jackie Greenough-trained chaser established her personal best time at Sandown Park over the 515-metre trip in last year’s Sapphire Crown Final when she scorched around in 28.82 seconds.
If Wow She’s Fast (Box 7) defends her crown, she will have accounted for Kelsey Bale (Box 4) and Baby Jaycee (Box 6).
WOW SHE’S FAST (3) WAS BACK TO HER BEST AT SANDOWN PARK LAST THURSDAY NIGHT:
Kelsey Bale recently completed a hat-trick of country cup victories in the Group 2 Warrnambool Cup Final (450m) on May 3, while Baby Jaycee is desperate to break through at the top level after finishing runner-up in three Group 1 events including the Australian Cup Final (525m).
“She’s full of confidence and ready to go. She just needs a little bit of luck and a clear run early,” Daniel Gibbons – trainer of Kelsey Bale – advised GRV’s Peter Quilty.
Up-and-comer Magic Muffin – victorious in seven of her 17 starts – and Plagiarise – triumphant in her first run since October 5 last Thursday night – must also be considered.
The $160,500 Group 1 Sportsbet Harrison-Dawson Final (Race 7 at 8:19pm) is headlined by Group 1 Silver Chief (525m) winner Amron Boy.
AMRON BOY (4) WAS DEVASTATING AT SANDOWN PARK ON APRIL 27:
“We’ve drawn well again (Amron Boy has Box 2), and he’ll get his chance,” co-trainer Jamie Ennis informed GRV’s Gerard Guthrie.
His main rivals include Group 3 Launching Pad (515m) winner Trooper Tears (Box 6) – victorious over Amron Boy last Thursday night – and Launching Pad runner-up Trapper Tears (Box 4).
Fred Rose (Box 1) – a winner in four of his last six starts, fastest heat winner Dundee Smokey (Box 5) and Group 3 winner Stealth (Box 8) cannot be discounted.
