A sports program is offering assistance to local netball clubs in an effort to help offset the rising cost of living.
Recent data from the Australian Sports Commission’s AusPlay, shows families’ median spend on sport for children aged 14 and under has risen to $650 per child last year, compared to $580 in 2019.
Which is why Woolworths says it’s more important than ever for families to understand the funding and support available to local sports, such as its Pick Fresh Play Fresh Netball Grants.
Last year’s program alone saw NSW clubs who received the grant put this towards covering registration fees, buying equipment and providing tools for players who would otherwise be unable to participate.
Locally, this included a grant to the Lismore & District Netball Association. The club received $20,000 to rebuild their association due to major flooding. This was also meant to purchase some net set equipment lost in the floods, allowing them the ability to run the program for players.
The grant was announced in June last year, and went towards the rebuilding the community netball facilities and supporting local families to be involved with the association.
Woolworths announced a further $20,000 including an equipment donation of balls, bibs and new goal post pads.

The NSW Government is also helping kids get active with the Active Kids program.
The Active Kids program provides a $100 voucher for parents, guardians and carers of school-enrolled children to use towards sport and active recreation costs each year.
The current voucher, released on January 1, is valid until Friday June 30.
To use the voucher, find a registered activity provider and present your voucher when you sign up.
