A New Jersey woman led State Troopers and other area law enforcement on a high speed pursuit back on May 8th that went through Onondaga, Cortland, and Broome Counties.
State Police were trying to pull over a vehicle in Onondaga County with the vehicle failing to comply with Troopers and sped away at high speeds. The pursuit continued into Cortland County where speeds exceeded 100mph. Officers then made the decision to terminate the pursuit.
When the vehicle was entering Broome County, the pursuit was started again with additional assistance from Troopers posted in Whitney Point. Stop sticks were used against the speeding vehicle.
The stop sticks were successful in deflating the drivers tires. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on I81 and Sheriff Deputies and Troopers were able to gain access to the driver inside the vehicle. One State Trooper was bitten by a dog inside the vehicle.
State Police identified the driver as 30 year old Sara J. Hoffman of Brentwood, New Jersey. Police say Hoffman was showing multiple signs of impairment, she was uninjured in the chase. Hoffman was charged with Driving While Impaired by Drugs, Resisting Arrest, and numerous traffic infractions.
The Trooper bitten was taken to Wilson Medical Center. I81 was briefly shut down just South of Whitney Point during the chase.
