- Woman died when her car plunged off a cliff
- Man escaped unscathed when he lost control hours earlier
- Police urge motorists to take care on the road
Two separate crashes in Victoria’s high country saw two cars plunge off the edge of different cliffs, leaving one woman dead and three others lucky to be alive.
Victoria Police have issued a desperate plea to motorists to take extra care on the roads this public holiday long weekend after a horror crash brought the state’s road toll to a 16-year high.
Emergency services were called to Toombon near Mt Baw Baw in the state’s east on Saturday following reports a car lost control and went over a cliff along Donnellys Creek Rd.
The female motorist tragically died at the scene while two passengers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
‘A teenage female is in a stable condition with shoulder pain and a man believed to be in his 20s has bruising to his head and appears to be in a stable condition,’ an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.
Police have launched an investigation into crash.
Just 12 hours earlier, an 18-year-old man from Warrnambool, in the state’s west, survived a three-metre fall off a cliff along Mount Muller Rd at Mirimbah near Mount Buller.
The teen lost control of his Holden Trailblazer and plunged down a cliff on Friday night, sparking a late night large-scale rescue operation.
The vehicle’s fall was stopped by trees.
Terrifying photos showing the car resting on its side.
A large scale operation involving police, SES, CFA, Fire Rescue Victoria, paramedics and a local towing company managed to retrieve the car and rescue the teen.
He was assessed by paramedics at the scene but didn’t have any physical injuries.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Road Policing, Martin O’Brien, warned Victorians to stay vigilant this public holiday long weekend.
‘Whether you’re travelling across the state this weekend or heading to the alpine regions, please take extra care on the roads and be sure to drive to the conditions,’ he said.
‘Everyone has a responsibility on the road, and everyone must make safety their number one priority when getting behind the wheel.’
