Largely developed by Wolf Tools in the 1960s to provide warehousing, offices, and showrooms for the company, the Wolf Business Park in Ross-on-Wye’s Alton Road is now home to a number of businesses.
The site was the target of plans by Lidl to build a new supermarket in the town, with an application made for the demolition of the demolition of existing Wolf Business Park buildings and erection of a new supermarket in 2018.
That application was later withdrawn, with a new amended application submitted for the same site in 2019.
The developers said the plans would have created around 100 jobs at the store and refurbished the wider business park.
But planning officers said the scheme would be detrimental to the long term protection of the historic town centre, that Lidl failed to demonstrate why they could not use land or buildings within the defined central shopping and commercial area in Ross. They further cited other reasons including the unnecessary loss of trees, road safety concerns and that it would result in the loss of employment land.
The case was taken to appeal, with planning inspector Philip Major also turning it down in 2021.

The 4.66 acre site is now on the market with agents Jackson Preece Surveyors for a guide price of £3,500,000 plus VAT.
The agents said the sale offers a “prominent commercial site with potential for development”, and includes offices, warehousing, and showrooms extending to 5,000 square metres and two investment units extending to £520 square metres.
The site is available freehold, subject to the commercial leases on units five and six, while vacant possession is available on the remainder of the accommodation if required, the agents said.
