A free community barbecue is being held at Livingstone Community centre on 2 July and everyone is invited to come along and share the love and reach out with the hand of friendship for people in need.
Event organiser Kylie Sefton said Unity Outreach are appealing for warm clothes and bedding which will be distributed to people in need on the day.
“As the Yeppoon region continues to be hit hard by the housing crisis and the soaring cost of living, many families and individuals are being forced onto the streets with nowhere to go,” Kylie said.
“Other families and individuals are struggling to make ends meet and are battling to afford basic needs in the face of high increases to rent and mortgages.
“Winter is a particularly hard time for people who are homeless as they struggle to stay warm.
“With little or no shelter, they face these cold months with no protection.
“It is our mission to display the heart of Christ and bring a message of God’s love, compassion, provisions, and empathy.
“To shine light in the darkness, to bring a word of faith, hope, peace, and joy.
“To let people, know there is concern for their hardship and that they are not alone.
“If you would like to donate to the appeal but are unable to come along to the barbecue, please drop donations in to the Livingstone Community centre before the event.
“We thank you in advance and look forward to seeing anyone who can make it to our free barbecue so together, we can shine a light in the darkness.”
