SUPERCARS will have an on-track presence this weekend in the NASCAR Cup Series’ race at World Wide Technology Raceway.
Winning Falcon and Mustang Supercars will feature in a mosaic paint scheme on the Ford NASCAR entry for Joey Logano as part of a special celebration between Team Penske and Shell/Pennzoil.
It comes hot on the heels of Josef Newgarden’s victory in the 2023 Indianapolis 500, which marked the 100th points-paying race win for a Team Penske car running with primary Shell and/or Pennzoil backing.
Penske’s time in Supercars accounts for a significant chunk of that success.
Its alliance with Dick Johnson Racing netted 56 championship race wins between Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard from 2017 to 2020 – during which time it was known as the Shell V-Power Racing Team.
“With Shell, we have experienced great success on and off the track, but its moments like this when you realise the magnitude of the triumphs we have enjoyed together,” said Penske Corporation chairman Roger Penske.
“There are a lot of areas our companies are focusing on in the future in both competition and multiple business and sustainability initiatives that are key to our partnership.
“It’s truly a business-wide relationship that we look forward to continuing well into the future.”
In addition to another Indianapolis 500 win, the partnership has also delivered a Daytona 500 crown and two NASCAR Cup Series titles, plus victory in the 2019 Bathurst 1000, and three Supercars drivers’ and teams’ championships.
Erebus Motorsport drivers Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown will attend this weekend’s NASCAR race in St Louis, as will team CEO Barry Ryan, engineer George Commins and Kostecki’s manager Nathan Cayzer.
They will do so as guests of Richard Childress Racing.
Meanwhile, three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut for Trackhouse Racing next month in Chicago.
