New South Wales Central Coast husband and wife training team, Ray and Susan Pitstock will return to their home track on Tuesday night with the same greyhounds that saw the veteran breeders, owners, and trainers take a winning double at Gosford two weeks ago.
The Pitstock’s will start the highly promising Dinali Keroma in race five, a 5th grade 515m race; and Too Sassy in the second of two heats of The Thunderbolt in race seven over 388m.
Both greyhounds were last start 388m winners at the same track two weeks ago.
Dinali Keroma is an extremely exciting greyhound by debut sire Dual Keroma who has had just three starts for two wins, all at Gosford over 388m.
The lightly raced Dinali Keroma scored a last start brilliant come from behind win at Gosford, hitting the line like 515m and further will only further suit the 31kg back dog.
Gosford Grade 5 388m May 23 2023 – Dinali Keroma (22.50) T: Susan Pitstock
The winning time of 22.50 is nothing special but it was the way the greyhound savaged the line late that really impressed.
Dinali Keroma won his maiden at his second start running a flying 22.20, just outside the best-of-the-night time of 22.06, again doing his best work late.
Dinali Keroma has trialled at Gosford from the 515m boxes in the two weeks between races, and punters have stepped right in to the potential rising star, backing him in to a red hot -181.82 favourite with greyhound betting sites, with the advantage of two vacant boxes to his outside.
Dinali Keroma’s sire Dual Keroma, raced 59 times for 21 wins, 11 seconds and four thirds, earning $97,085 in prizemoney for the same connections.
The 32kg black greyhound was fastest qualifier for the 2018 Group 1 Golden Easter Egg final, and was a finalist for the 2018 Group 1 Paws Of Thunder.
Dual Keroma is one of the few greyhounds standing at stud in Australia who has greyhound coursing form to his name, having won the 2017 Waterloo Purse at Longwood.
Gosford Maiden 388m May 16 2023 – Dinali Keroma (22.20) T: Susan Pitstock
Dinali Keroma (Dual Keroma x Nialilli), much like his sire, will only be improved by maturity, but is already running group-class ratings in his races.
Getting out to what looks like a far more suitable distance on Tuesday night should only improve those assessments.
The Pitstock’s, who now only train a handful of greyhounds, are not getting carried away with Dinali Keroma’s early success, and will continue working him through the lower grades regardless of tonight’s result.
“We’ll just do what we’ve always done, and keep him in his grade until he tells us he’s ready for better racing”, said trainer Susan Pitstock.
The Pitstock’s will also start last start winner Too Sassy from box six in the second of the Gosford Thunderbolt heats on Tuesday night.
Too Sassy was a debut 22.21 best-of-night free for all winner at Gosford for the Pitstock’s, who had only recently taken over the training of the Tony Duggan-owned greyhound.
Gosford Free For All 388m May 23 2023 – Too Sassy (22.21) T: Susan Pitstock
Too Sassy, a 29.48 Sandown winner when trained by Terry Reid in Victoria, has now won 11 races from 24 starts.
On Tuesday night she will be contesting a heat of The Thunderbolt, where the top four greyhounds from the two Gosford heats will head to the semi-finals at Grafton on June 18 over 350m, before the $75,000 to-the-winner final on June 24.
Greyhound betting apps have Too Sassy on the third line of greyhound betting odds at +500 despite the last start win.
The Susan Smith-trained Vamoose (box three) is a justified -142.86 favourite with greyhound bookmakers, after winning four of his last five starts at Grafton over 350m.
The 2023 Group 2 Maitland Gold Cup runner-up has won 19 of his last 25 starts, and 27 of 49 career runs overall.
Pennies Forever, from box one, has been priced at +450 in the race, just ahead of Too Sassy.
Too Sassy is undefeated in two career runs from box six.
The Thunderbolt heats continue Tuesday night at Bulli and Gosford, with further heats scheduled for this week at Taree, Goulburn, Richmond, Dubbo, and Grafton.
The semi-finals are already shaping as very competitive with Talakai qualifying through the Wagga heats, running a new 320m track record in the process.
