JOANNA Simpson was 46-years-old when she was brutally murdered in her family home in 2010.
Here we take a look at what happened to Joanna and where the man responsible for her murder is today.
Who was Joanna Simpson?
Joanna Simpson was raised on the Isle of Man and was married to Robert Brown.
The pair shared two children together and Joanna enjoyed a successful career, running a five-star Bed and Breakfast business.
She had also completed a degree at Bath University.
What happened to Joanna Simpson?
On Halloween in 2010, ex-BA pilot Robert Brown killed Joanna, 46, at their family home in Ascot, as their two children played nearby.
Brown hit Joanna 14 times over the head, before placing her body into the boot of his car.
This had followed a sustained period of domestic abuse which included coercive control, isolation, intimidation and severe violence.
Joanna’s body was found five days later buried in a pre-dug grave.
The tragic murder of the mother-of-two took place just one week before the finalisation of their divorce.
Following her death, the Joanna Simpson Foundation was set up in her memory.
The foundations work is based on her beliefs, values, and the love of her children.
Where is Joanna’s husband Robert Brown now?
In May 2011, Robert Brown was acquitted of murder, but found guilty of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility at Reading crown court.
He was sentenced to 24 years for manslaughter and a further two years for an offence of obstructing a coroner in the execution of his duty.
He is now eligible for parole in November, after serving 13 years of his 26-year term.
The impeding decision has sparked fury from Joanna’s family and campaigners, including Carrie Johnson, wife of ex-PM Boris Johnson.
Joanna’s mother Diana Parkes, 83, previously launched an appeal in Saturday’s Sun to block Brown’s release.
In February, Diana told The Sun that she is convinced Brown will find a way to hurt her and her grandchildren if he is set free.
She said: ”I worry for everybody because this man is not safe. I think he will stop at nothing and we will be constantly looking over our shoulders. Let common sense please rule the day.
“This man is not fit to be let out. He should stay in jail for at least his full sentence.”
Diana also met with new Justice Secretary Alex Chalk in a bid to stop her daughter’s killer from being released from prison.
Following their meeting, Mr Chalk told The Sun that powers to allow ministers to overrule parole chiefs are expected in months.
He also vowed to push ahead with parole reforms that will give him the power of veto.
