It’s strawberry season in Texas, when you can hand-pick a basket of fresh strawberries less than an hour’s drive from Houston.
Strawberry season begins in late February in Texas and lasts until May. At these farms you can bring the whole family to pick buckets of strawberries. Just remember three things: wear sunscreen, you’re not allowed to bring your own bucket, and no pets are allowed.
Where to Pick Strawberries in Houston
Atkinson Farms
Spring strawberry picking at Atkinson Farms started this month. The farm was passed down four generations in the Atkinson family, and grows seasonal fruit and vegetables over 100 acres of land. Check their Facebook page to make sure the strawberry fields are open because they close them sometimes to let the fruit ripen. The farm charges an entry fee of $3 and $4.99 per pound. An on-site shop also sells freshly picked produce.

During this week there will be strawberry picking and fun activities for the children including a train ride, playground and paintball gallery. Check the Facebook page for updates on when their fields are open for picking.
The strawberry fields have become Froberg’s biggest attraction since picking opened to the public began in 2006. Admission for strawberry picking is $3, required buckets are $2, and each pound picked is $4. The costs are the same week of the strawberry festival. There is also a general store on site which is open every day from 08:00 to 18:00 and sells jams, dried fruit and pickled vegetables.
