Syracuse, N.Y. — Several Section III boys and girls teams will try to finish off their spring seasons with state championships this weekend.
Here’s a rundown of the CNY boys and girls lacrosse, baseball, softball and tennis teams who have reached the semifinal round of their respective classes.
Boys lacrosse
Baldwinsville (17-2; Section III Class A champions)
Opponent: The Bees will be taking on Pittsford from Section V in the semifinals. Baldwinsville enters the final four ranked as the No. 3 Class A team in the latest state rankings and Pittsford is No. 6.
When, where: 3 p.m. Wednesday at SUNY Cortland
Path to state semifinals: Baldwinsville defeated Liverpool 16-7 in the Section III Class A championship and followed that with an 8-4 win over Corning-Painted Post in regionals.
Championship history: The Bees won the program’s first state championship last season by defeating Northport.
Up next: Nicholas Cary (26 saves, .702 save percentage), Brady Garcia (6-3), Keegan Lynch (5-8), Garrett Sutton (11-3)

West Genesee (13-6; Section III Class B champions)
Opponent: The Wildcats are taking on Section V powerhouse Victor in the semifinals. The Blue Devils are the defending Class B state champions and are No. 1 in this week’s state rankings. West Genesee is No. 13.
When, where: 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tompkins Cortland Community College
Path to state semifinals: West Genesee defeated Fayetteville-Manlius 9-7 in Section III Class B finals and then defeated Vestal 15-11 in regionals.
Championship history: The Wildcats have won 15 state championships, the latest coming in 2008.
Playoff standouts: Liam Burns (10-7), Ryan Considine (4-6), Jack Mellen (7-3), Shane Staudt (34 saves, .576 save percentage), Jonah Vormwald (47 faceoff wins)
Up next: Winner plays winner of Niskayuna (II) and Garden City (VIII) 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Hofstra
Jamesville-DeWitt (15-4; Section III Class C champions)
Opponent: The Red Rams will take on Honeoye Falls-Lima from Section V in the semifinals. On paper, J-D enters the game as the favorite. In this week’s state poll, the Red Rams and Cougars are ranked No. 6 and 11, respectively.
When, where: 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at SUNY Cortland
Path to state semifinals: J-D defeated Westhill 12-10 in the Section III Class C championship and defeated Maine-Endwell 13-1 in regionals.
Championship history: The Red Rams last won the state championship in 2016. They have five state titles in program history.
Playoff standouts: Jonah Buff ( 25 faceoff wins), Samuel Brazell (8-7), Ian McIntyre (34 saves, .630 save percentage), Gannon Kessler (12-5), Graham Kesselring (10-3), Nick Miller (35 faceoff wins)

Marcellus (17-3; Section III Class D champions)
Opponent: Marcellus will take on Section V’s Penn Yan Academy in the semifinals. In the latest state rankings, Penn Yann is No. 6 in Class D and Marcellus is No. 3.
When, where: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Tompkins Cortland Community College
Path to state semifinals: Marcellus defeated General Brown 16-11 in the Section III Class D championship and took down Ogdensburg Free Academy 18-6 in regionals.
Championship history: This is the furthest Marcellus has gone in program history. 2023 marks the first time the team won a Section III championship.

Girls lacrosse
Baldwinsville (15-4, Section III Class A champions)

Path to state semifinals: def. C-NS 18-11 in Section III final, Corning-Painted Post 17-10 in state regional
Championship history: The Bees won state titles in 2022 and 2000

Championship history: The Wildcats won state titles in 2014, 2012, 2008, 2003, 2002 and 2001
Playoff standouts: Molly Doran (13 goals), Olivia Blanding (9-7, 13 draw controls)

Indian River (19-2, Section III Class C champion)
Opponent: Bayport-Blue Point, Section XI

Path to state semifinals: def. Jamesville-DeWitt in Section III finals, Vestal 20-10 in first round of states, Canton 17-3 in state regionals.
Championship history: Indian River has never won a state girls lacrosse title.

Baseball
Little Falls (20-3; Section III Class C champion)
Opponent: The Mounties will play Section I’s Tuckahoe in the semifinals.
When, where: 5 p.m., Friday at Maine-Endwell High School
Path to state semifinals: Little Falls defeated Bishop Ludden 7-1 in the Section III Class C championship and followed it up with a 4-1 win over Schuyler Storm in regionals.
Championship history: The Mounties have never won a state championship. The semifinal appearance is the first time Little Falls has made the final four since 1983.
Playoff standouts: Little Falls has been led by Chase Regan (7.0 IP, 1.00 ERA, 2 Ks; .667 BA, 1 RBI, 4 runs scored), Jack Morotti (.333 BA, 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored) and Brayton Langdon (7.0 IP, 1.00 ERA, 9 Ks) over the past three games.

Softball
Poland (16-4, Section III Class D champion)
Opponent: Scio Central/Friendship, Section V. Poland is ranked No. 3 in the latest New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports poll while Scio comes in at No. 2.
When, where: 1 p.m. Friday at the Moriches Athletic Complex
Path to state semifinals: def. West Canada Valley 6-1 in the Section III final; Edwards-Knox 7-0 in first round of states
Championship history: Poland has never won a state softball title
Playoff standouts: Shelbi Hagues (16 hits, 12 RBI, 2 ER, 38 K) Logan Cookinham (6 hits, 7 RBI)

Boys tennis
Cazenovia (12-2; Section III Class C-1 champion)
When, where: Semifinals begin at 9 a.m. Friday at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. The finals will start at 2:30 p.m.
Path to state semifinals: The Lakers defeated Skaneateles to win the Section III Class C-1 championship. They followed that with a win over Sauquoit Valley to become Section III’s Division III regional representative. At regionals, Cazenovia defeated Plattsburgh 5-0 to earn a spot in the state semifinals.
Playoff standouts: Traian Cherciu (first singles), Garret Lounsbury (second singles), Gabe Reagan (third singles), and Cy Laurie and Ethan Camp (second doubles) are all undefeated since the Section III C-1 championship. Evan Molloy and Max Reger (first singles) lost at the C-1 championship but have won every match since.
