Maitland City Council are asking the community to contribute ideas for the future use of the former Maitland Park Bowling Club.
With an impressive floor space of nearly 1,000 square meters spread across two floors, the former bowling club presents a wealth of potential benefits for the community.
The building, which dates back to the early 1900s and underwent an extension in the 1970s, occupies a prime location in the heart of Maitland. Its proximity to local transport links and the popular Maitland Aquatic Centre adds to its appeal as a versatile and accessible community space.
Having served as a bowling club for over 120 years, the former Maitland Park Bowling Club holds a special place in the region’s history. However, financial challenges led to its closure in 2022, leaving the building dormant. Now, the Council aims to breathe new life into this treasured space by exploring innovative and sustainable reuse options that align with community needs and aspirations.
“We’re now undertaking an expression of interest process to understand the level of community and commercial interest in the site so it can be reactivated for the future,” Council’s Senior Property Advisor, Michael Rathborne said.
“Whether it’s a community or sporting group looking to reactivate the site or a commercial project, we want to consider all options to make sure we get the best outcome for the people of Maitland.’
Community members and interested parties are encouraged to submit their ideas and proposals before the deadline of 3 July 2023. To make a submission or explore the interior of the former Maitland Park Bowling Club, visit mait.city/Maitland-Park-Bowling-Club.
