Season 13 of League of Legends has featured its fair share of various changes, but one of the most substantial alterations is definitely Emerald Rank. If you’re a League player who’s dabbled in Wild Rift, then you’ll have undoubtedly heard of this newer rank of player prestige. Accordingly, LoL Emerald Rank will function identically to its mobile spinoff’s counterpart by taking place between Platinum and Diamond. The goal is to create more balance with the ranked distribution of players in these higher ranks.
How Does Emerald Rank Work in League of Legends?
For clarification, the purpose of Emerald Rank isn’t to spoil the exclusivity and prestige of Diamond players. Instead, it serves as a “safe space” for those stuck in the elo ladder between Platinum I and Diamond IV. League of Legends Emerald Rank. Attaining Gold or even Platinum is certainly evidence that a player is decent at the game. However, those stuck between Platinum and Diamond are some of the most stressed in the playerbase. Emerald Rank in LoL aims to fix that.
By creating a new rank, the overall experience of those striving to reach Diamond and above will improve. There will be more space above Platinum, which also means that players be more evenly distributed between Platinum, Emerald, and Diamond based on their skill. Moreover, the jump in skill level between the Platinum and Diamond will most certainly be reduced. This makes games fairer by matching teams with opponents similar to them.
On top of the addition of Emerald Rank in League of Legends, Riot Games will do away with Promotion series for climbing ranks. In other words, players can more easily move between elos without the pressure of losing or winning a Promotion. The central objective of this removal and Emerald is to flatten the rank curve, making the game accessible and a less stressful experience. The idea is very similar to the addition of Iron in 2018, except Emerald is focused on the higher elos.
