Two people had to be rescued after a fire broke out at a Weybridge dessert parlour. Four fire engines from the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were called to Church Street on Thursday (May 18) after a blaze broke out at Marble.
Firefighters received a call shortly before 7.30am and rushed to the scene where they rescued two people. Nearby businesses reported the shop had suffered heavy smoke damage, although the cause of the fire has not been revealed.
“We received a call this morning around 7.25am to a report of a fire on Church Street, Weybridge,” a spokesperson for the fire service said.

“Four fire engines were sent, arriving at the scene around 7.35am. A fire had broken out in a commercial unit with residential properties above it. Two residents were safely evacuated [from the buildings], and are now in the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service.”
The fire service had urged people to avoid the area while they tackled the blaze. Church Street was shut while crews attended the scene with police called in to help cordon off the road. As of 11am they confirmed the road had reopened.
A spokesperson said: “Police were called to assist Surrey Fire and Rescue Service with road closures whilst they dealt with a fire in a building on Church Street, Weybridge. The road has now been reopened.”
Neighbouring businesses reported seeing both police cars and fire engines on the road. One member of staff from nearby florist Dandini Flowers said it was “very sad” to see a fellow business impacted.
They added: “The road has been reopened, I know it happened about 7.30am and there was an incident at Marble Lounge. We couldn’t drive down here but we were able to access the shop, there was a bit of a commotion of course.
“Obviously the smoke damage is pretty extensive so it looks pretty bad. We don’t know them too well [but] we’re obviously sad for them.”
A spokesperson for the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) also confirmed they had attended the scene. They added: “A person was assessed and treated for smoke inhalation before being taken to St Peter’s Hospital.”
