After its richly successful inaugural event, Western United is bringing the Western United Cup back to Ballarat in 2023.
This year, the tournament will begin on Friday 22 September and run through Sunday 24 September, making it a whole weekend of activity right at the perfect time in the middle of school holidays.
The Cup will follow the same structure as last year, with divisions from Under 9’s right up to Under 21’s and an open age division also on offer.
Get involved in the second edition of the Western United Cup
In 2023, the Western United Cup will also be open to school teams as well as club teams and will cater for girls of all abilities across the available age groups.
Teams across the different divisions will be competing for the Cup trophy and gold medals, while silver medals will also be presented to the runners-up in each division.
Once again, the Western United Cup will be heavily supported by the Ballarat City Council and the State Government of Victoria, while Australian Football Skool will also provide support in the preparation and running of the tournament.
Western United Women’s Football Manager Amanda Stella said the Club’s continued efforts in the women’s space will continue to engage the community and help the game grow.
“We are really looking forward to returning to Ballarat for the Western United Cup this year. Last year’s tournament was extremely successful, and we’re hoping to reach new heights in 2023” she said.
“Coming off our amazing Liberty A-League season and the excitement of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, we are proud to be championing women’s football in the community and giving young girls the opportunity to emulate their heroes on the pitch.”
With 35 teams from 23 different clubs across Victoria in attendance last year, the second edition of the Western United Cup is set to be even bigger and better.
A total of 2,000 people came through Ballarat’s Regional Football Facility at Morshead Park for three days of exhilarating football competition and family fun.
