The Ballina 2023 programme continues into June with the internationally-acclaimed and world-renowned pianist John O’Conor making a special appearance at the Twin Trees Hotel, Ballina, on June 9.
John will perform a repertoire featuring many of the much-loved favourites for which the Master, as he has been christened, is so well known.
John is regarded as one of the most important pianists in the world and was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award of the National Concert Hall, Dublin, in 2018 by the President Michael D Higgins.
In particular, he is considered the foremost interpreter of Beethoven living today.
The event is presented by Ballina Lions Club to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland and other Lions Club charities.
A Steinway artist, John is chair of the Piano Division at Shenandoah University in Virginia; professor of piano at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto; distinguished visiting artist at the TU Dublin Conservatoire of Music, and visiting professor at Showa University in Japan.
For his services to music, he has been decorated ‘officier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres’ by the French government; awarded the ‘ehrenkreuz für wissenschaft und kunst’ by the Austrian government; the ‘order of the rising sun’ by the emperor of Japan, and has received many other awards.
Immediately prior to his performance in Ballina, John will perform in Seoul, South Korea, and will travel onwards to play in New York, USA.
Tickets for the recital are available from the Ballina Arts Centre Box Office and online at www.ballinaartscentre.com.
The concert, which commences at 7.30pm, promises to be one of the real highlights of Ballina 2023.
