Funding of over €74,000 is being provided by Government to support agricultural shows in county Mayo this summer, it has been announced today.
Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon said he was pleased up to €10,000 will be provided to nine agricultural shows taking place throughout the county.
Deputy Dillon said the allocation of funding for the shows was confirmed by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys.
“Agricultural shows in Mayo mean so much to the rural communities from Ballina to Ballinrobe, Claremorris to Erris, Swinford to Louisburgh, with competitions, music, best of cattle and dog shows which keeps families and individuals entertained, as well as showcasing the incredible variety of home-grown products produced here in county Mayo,” Deputy Dillon said. “This funding will support the show committees and the vital work that they do, as well as the excellent work of their volunteers. I am encouraging everyone to get out and enjoy the best of these Mayo shows taking place this summer.”
Funding amounts from over €4000 to €10,000 is being provided to each show to support them in meeting the costs of putting the shows together – on the back of huge voluntary endeavour.
The shows being supported in county Mayo Include € 8,525 for the Ballina Show on July 9, an allocation of €9,205 for the Ballinrobe Agricultual Show on September 3, funding of €10,700 for the Bonniconlon Show on August 7 and an allocation of €8,525 for the Claremorris Agricultural Show on August 6.
Other events being supported include the Crossmolina Show on July 29, which is receiving €4,265, the Erris Agricultural Show on July 23, which is receiving €9,205, the Louisburgh Horse Show on July 16, which has been allocated €6,700, the Swinford Agricultural Show Society on August 27, which is receiving €8,525 and the Westport Horse and Pony Show on June 4 and 5 which has been allocated €8,525.
