West Coast fans have again headed to social media to vent their fury after the Eagles suffered another comprehensive loss, this time to Gold Coast by 70 points.
Adam Simpson’s side produced yet another uncompetitive second quarter under the Friday night lights at Optus Stadium, the Suns piling on eight unanswered goals to lead 11.7 (73) to 3.5 (23) at the main break.
After the Eagles burst out of the blocks with the first three goals of the third term, the Suns piled on more misery in the second half, with the visitors running out 16.17 (113) to 6.7 (43) winners.
“The lowest this great football club has ever been,” Jacko Stone said, with Anthony Haddock adding “Even worse than the year they got the wooden spoon. Worst they have ever played since inception”.
In an unwanted case of déjà vu, Jason Dux said “I thought last season was bad and it couldn’t get much worse but this season is really proving that wrong”.
Danielle Grahame agreed with Tim Kelly’s half-time interview sentiment that “it just isn’t good enough”, adding “you are giving us absolutely nothing no fight no passion just nothing ….. getting beat up this badly at home just poor”.
Gallows humour is how a few chose to cope, with Alex Pyke sarcastically saying “Heaps of effort boys keep going”.
A crowd of just 36,219 may not have even stayed to see the second half, with Jay Margo saying “If you are reading this and you are at the game, Just leave now, and go enjoy your weekend”.
Some felt the comments section on the club’s posts was being overzealously moderated, with Paul Kinkella saying “Had my comments removed. Nice one Eagles” and Paul Robertson adding “Censoring people isn’t the answer”.
After being comprehensively outpointed by Gold Coast interceptor Charlie Ballard, the out-of-form Jack Darling was again a target of fan criticism at half-time, but some supporters went in to bat for the key forward, with Paul Davis saying “not sure Jack is the problem tonight. 11 inside 50s in a half”.
The club’s third-highest goal-kicker bravely battled on after suffering an arm injury in the third quarter.
