Newcastle United are readying a “surprise bid” to sign young West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.
Writing via his Patreon account on Sunday (18 June), Nixon reported that ex-Albion technical director Dan Ashworth, who’s now working at St James’ Park, is a “huge fan” of the 21-year-old shot-stopper.
It is understood that West Brom are looking to sell in this transfer window and the Magpies are “in strong” for England Under-21 international Griffiths, who could compete for game-time in the North-East or be loaned out for the season.
Not ideal
West Brom are going to have to start cashing in on players this summer if they want to stand any chance of repaying that stupid £20million loan from MSD Holdings.
With parachute payments ending and another season in the Championship on the horizon, Albion are in a crisis.

Carlos Corberan is being linked with Leeds, our best players are being linked with moves away and the only sign we’ve seen of the Chinese ownership leaving is caveated to the extreme.
Griffiths is a great young goalkeeper who’s destined to play at a higher level than what West Brom are at – and will be at.
He played 10 times in the Championship last season due to an injury to Alex Palmer and David Button’s shocking form.
The Hereford-born ace did get off to a rocky start, admittedly, and was responsible for a couple of clangers.
However, Griffiths did improve and it says a lot that Ashworth is interested in signing the young shot-stopper.
We hope he doesn’t go but we’d rather Griffiths and other top players move on than the future of The Hawthorns being at risk due to this idiotic £20million loan.
In other West Brom news, Albion are reportedly interested in this Aston Villa player.
