Here’s what is making the weather headlines this weekend….
ANOTHER SETTLED DAY
Groundhog day again with settled weather across most of the country. A southeasterly airflow is still pushing a few showers into the eastern North Island (Hawkes Bay / Gisborne) and a few showers are brushing eastern Northland, great weather out west.
The South Island has cloud in the east, perhaps a few drizzle patches this morning near the coast, this afternoon it should brighten up. Most of the South Island has great weather otherwise with a cold frosty start inland, perhaps there might be mist or fog about this morning also.
A front does approach from the west so Fiordland has cloud, expect rain there later this evening or overnight.
HEAVY RAIN POTENTIAL SUNDAY – EASTERN NORTH ISLAND
A small frontal feature may bring heavy rain to the eastern North Island on Sunday, it’s not overly likely but there are hints in some model outputs of this occurring. There is a chance the rain could get close but sit just offshore as in the GFS model output below.
We shall wait and see.
WEATHER ON SUNDAY
Weak high pressure brings mainly settled weather over New Zealand today, a weak front moving up the West Coast of the South Island brings showers. There is also the slim chance of some heavy rain for Hawkes Bay / Gisborne if a frontal feature gets close enough.
North Island
Mostly sunny weather with a few clouds here and there, a few showers appear in the west overnight, winds from the southwest. Gisborne has showers in the morning then Hawkes Bay afternoon, there is a slim chance of heavy rain. Wairarapa stays dry with sun. Wellington is sunny with northerly winds.
South Island
Rain for South Westland eases from afternoon, a few showers may reach Buller in the evening as a weak front moves northwards. Mostly sunny for Nelson and down along the east coast with a touch of high cloud. Southland has a few spits or showers, Otago may see a few spits in the evening.
