BATHURST 1000 winner Jonathon Webb will make his second on-track appearance in as many weeks when a new chapter begins for the historic touring car scene.
This weekend’s HSRCA Sydney Classic at Eastern Creek marks the first race meeting with expanded eligibility for the Group A and C Touring Cars class to include invited five-litre V8 Supercars.
Among those that will be in action across today, tomorrow and Sunday is a rare 1995-built EF Falcon.
Built with a lightweight Ford body shell, the car was owned and predominantly raced by privateer Kevin Waldock.
Shared by Waldock and Mark McLaughlin, it enjoyed a successful start to life with top 10 finishes in its first two races: the 1995 Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000.
Never upgraded from EF specification, the car was in 2003 sold to David Thexton, who ran it in Sports Sedans to gain further V8 experience.
It was eventually acquired by Neil Schembri in 2017, and was earlier this year offered for sale in the ‘UnReil Collection’ auction.
For Webb, the Sydney Motorsport Park outing will continue a year of sporadic outings in V8s.
The former Supercars team owner drove his Bathurst-winning VF Commodore at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival in March and made a cameo last week at Queensland Raceway aboard Tim Slade’s PremiAir Racing Gen3 Camaro.
Webb also competed in the Bathurst 12 Hour earlier this year in an Audi GT3 entry.
