Brisbane post-punk, synthpop artist Sarah Stockholm’s newest release is the single ‘Wonder’.
Melancholic-sounding new wave and stylishly elegant synthpop tones wash over Sarah’s dynamic vocals before the melody explodes into shimmery, glistening dance-pop and frenetic 808-style drums.
“Some songs are easier to finish than others and this one nearly broke me,” shares Sarah, who co-produced ‘Wonder’ with Aidan Hogg (Jaguar Jonze, Robert Forster, WAAX).
“It wasn’t until I locked myself in a hotel room for two days that I got all the parts, from lyrics through to the drum pattern, done and was happy with them.
“I’m more proud of this track than any other on the upcoming album [‘Trace Of Humanity’].”
With the song released at the start of May, scenestr is thrilled to premiere the ‘Wonder’ music video today. Enjoy.
The video treatment for ‘Wonder’ was done by Muraya Moore and Rhys Tyack, a director and cinematographer from Brisbane who draw from their dance, music and art backgrounds to explore absurd narratives where reality and the surreal intersect.
“They brought this brilliant idea to have a web of rope extending from my body for one of the scenes. I said ‘yes let’s do it’!
“But then I spent over 60 hours sewing, cutting and stitching 400 metres of craft rope onto a skin-tight dress and just prayed it all held together.
“It was a lot of work, trial and error – but completely worth persevering as their vision came to life. I think we were all a bit speechless as how incredible it looked! I can’t wait for people to see this video.”
Sarah Stockholm will launch ‘Trace Of Humanity’ with shows at It’s Still A Secret (Brisbane) 17 June and The Last Chance Rock n Roll Bar (Melbourne) 24 June.
