A large film crew believed to be part of the team working on HBO’s House of the Dragon has been hard at work on one of North Wales most popular beaches. This is just one of several North Wales beauty spots being used as a backdrop for the second season of the hit TV series.
Dozens of vehicles, shipping containers and a Warner Bros branded truck were spotted at the site inside a heavily fenced off area, which appeared to take over half the car park at Newborough beach earlier on today. Teams were spotted coming and going from the area, though security was tight.
Filming was confirmed to be taking part at the location a couple of weeks ago, when Cross Plains Productions confirmed filming would take place on the beach and in the woods. They are managing the month long shoot over Anglesey and Gwynedd, which sees several iconic North Wales locations being used.
Work began on the site last week and is expected to be completed by Monday, June 26. Only three days of actual filming are scheduled, on Wednesday to Friday June 21-23. At other times, residents have been reassured the production will have a light “footprint”.
Earlier this week, pictures came through showing another large crew setting up at Dinorwig Quarry, which is believed to be another key filming location for the show. A leaked map showing the exact locations where various shoots would take place was shared with North Wales Live earlier this week.

Film crews were spotted in Caernarfon yesterday, where cast and crew are believed to be staying during filming in the region. Sources informed North Wales Live that the crew will be staying the Celtic Royal Hotel in Caernarfon while cast are believed to be staying in flats situated in Victoria Dock itself.
Recently Gwynedd Council also confirmed the closure of the public bridleways off the B4418 around Llyn Y Gader on the outskirts of the small village of Rhyd-Ddu. The routes will be closed on June 30, for between one and three days for filming work, and rumours have suggested this will also be a filming location for House of the Dragon.
Other sites in North Wales have also been selected for filming as part of House of the Dragon, which is itself a spin-off of the smash hit fantasy series Game of Thrones, which aired on HBO in the US and Sky in the UK and ran for eight seasons between 2011 and 2019. Some filming is thought to have have already taken place as film crews were spotted elsewhere on the island at Penmon, where a large marquee was erected.
