Two titans of the British animation scene are heading to VR, as Wallace and Gromit in the Grand Getaway gets its world premiere at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase Powered by Intel.
A new teaser trailer shows off an alien landscape, before revealing a ship that long-term fans of Wallace and his long-suffering canine companion might find very familiar if they saw the pair’s first adventure, 1989’s A Grand Day Out.
The ship is looking a little worse for wear, but perhaps that’s something to do with that looks like a very bumpy landing or its age – it’s been more than three decades since Wallace and Gromit first appeared on our screens. Of course, it might have something to do with the fact that Wallace steps out from its interior holding a golf club – hardly traditional spacefaring equipment.
This isn’t the first time that Wallace and Gromit have featured in a game – over the years they’ve appeared together in a handful of titles – but this is the first time that fans of the pair will be able to accompany them on a VR adventure. Given Wallace’s inventor background, however, I don’t think he’ll be particularly thrown off by the new technology.
Wallace and Gromit in the Grand Getaway is currently set for release later in 2023, where it’ll be exclusively available via the Meta quest family of VR headsets. More information will be available closer to release.
