SUBIACO was able to well and truly keep its WAFLW finals hopes alive with a dominant win against Peel Thunder on Saturday while Claremont then locked away the minor premiership by snapping Swan Districts’ winning run on Sunday.
There were just the two matches in Round 14 of the WAFLW on the back of the two derbies last weekend which saw West Perth defeat East Perth, and East Fremantle beat South Fremantle.
Those four teams then all had the bye this weekend with a game each on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Round 14 in the WAFLW got underway on Saturday at Leederville Oval and Subiaco dominated Peel Thunder to win 5.11 (41) to 0.0 (0) with the result keeping the Lions just half a game outside of fourth position on the ladder with two rounds remaining.
The two hottest teams in the WAFLW then did battle on Sunday at Revo Fitness Stadium and it was Claremont remaining undefeated in 2023 by beating Swan Districts 5.7 (37) to 2.4 (16).
The win guarantees the Tigers of finishing in top spot at the end of the home and away season while Swans’ seven-game winning streak comes to an end and they are only just hanging on to fourth place as a result.
