Registrations are officially open for hobby and commercial beekeepers across the state to attend the annual Bee Industry Council of WA Conference.
Western Australia is home to more than 4800 beekeepers and this conference is useful for both professional beekeepers with businesses and hobby beekeepers with backyard hives.
“Bee Industry Council of WA is excited to bring a wide range of speakers that are suitable to our wide range of beekeepers,” said Bee Industry Council of WA Chair Brendon Fewster.
“We really want all beekeepers to be abreast of the best beekeeping practices and understand their responsibilities, which is why BICWA has been coordinating conferences over the last few years.”
The program shares frequently asked questions about queen bee replacement, provides beekeeping training information about American Foul Brood (AFB) and Varroa Mite.
The conference will be opened by the Hon. Jackie Jarvis MLC, Minister for Agriculture and Food; Forestry; Small Business and the celebration of the WA Bee, Honey and Pollination Industry Strategic Plan 2022 – 27.
The conference will also explore and debate new research into opportunities for AFB vaccinations being developed internationally, as WA is in a unique position to be a test case for the rest of the world.
The conference is on Saturday, July 15 at the Wilkinson Gallery, Claremont Showgrounds.
South West beekeepers are encouraged to attend.
The Agriculture Producers’ Committee will be subsidising 100 early-bird tickets for registered beekeepers for half of the ticket price, with full priced tickets being $110.
