RACE 4
Rockbarton Roman has raced 13 times; winning three of them with four seconds and a third. In fact the son of Rubick has never finished worse than fifth so it goes without saying that he is a highly reliable and consistent horse. Barrier one/Bullock equals ‘every chance’. That said, the Kris Lees trained So You Think daughter Show Me Your Love has a tidy win/place record herself/. On top of that, she was less than a length behind Rockbarton Roman last start and was first-up. I’m On A Break was most impressive winning at Gunnedah from the back.
Bet: Rockbarton Roman to win, quinella 5,10
RACE 5
Burling was way over the odds when he won at Tamworth on debut. There’s no way he trialled like a $20 shot and on top of that, he is trained by Cody Morgan and had Koby Jennings on. Long story short, he was super impressive; charging home from last to first that day. Takes on older horses here but might be up to it. Drawn wide but has Bullock on. Leggy Point was fancied and crunched when she won on debut at Gosford on Oct 21. Ran an honourable fourth first-up at Scone behind the clearly above average Once Again My Girl.
Bet: Burling to win, if scratched Leggy Point to win, quinella 5,6
RACE 6
Innervoice has ‘only won twice in her 24 starts but has placed 10 times and six of those are ‘seconds’. The mare has only had four runs for Lyle Chandler, they are as follows; three seconds and a last start fourth to Dollar Magic in a deep Benchmark 74 at Dubbo. Go well. Lord Avatar is a very new stablemate of Innervoice. They are both by the same sire as it happens. Monday is Lord Avatar’s first run for Chandler off a pleasing enough trial. Taketheshot’s best form is here at home.
Bet: Innervoice to win
RACE 7
Who Goes There’s presence in the last ensures a much wider audience than your usual country-grade Benchmark 58. The son of Exosphere trialled like Phar Lap prior to his debut at Scone where he somehow drifted from ‘red’ to ‘black’ odds. It was never in doubt, him winning that is, and he ran time and won by a big space. This is harder of course but how good is he? Time will tell. You get the sense the ‘best’ Shamalie could at least ‘test’ Who Goes There but whether she can beat him remains to be seen. Pee Dee is a player. Spanish Missile has rather compelling form at the venue.
Bet: Who Goes There to win
MURWILLUMBAH
RACE 4
Mahomes remains winless after 41 starts but he could just was easily be a Class 2,3 or 4 horse if a few of his nine seconds were wins. For the record, he has run five thirds as well. The son of Bon Hoffa was beaten a neck two starts back at Kempsey and second again 5-days later at Grafton. He so deserves one and this could be the day that he finally breaks through. Flawless Ambition is trained at the Sunshine Coast by Natalie McCall who elected to bypass a race at home on Sunday in favour of this one.
Bet: Mahomes to win
RACE 5
Fellowship is a good style of horse by the four-times Group 1 Churchill. Trained at Ballina by Ethan Ensby, Fellowship trialled rather well when fourth to Breeders’ Plate placegetter Emperor at home prior to his underwhelming debut at Lismore. Had legitimate excuses that day and shapes a sharp improver. Boulanger was very good indeed last preparation, highlighted by back to back placings, the last one was a second here over 1550m. Trialled well 11-days go. Rose Between Thorn ran well at Grafton first run for the new camp.
Bet: Fellowship each-way or is scratched, Rose Between Thorn to place
RACE 6
Solarosa has only won once in her 17 starts but she has placed six times, four of those are seconds. Typical of her sire Adelaide, she is pretty much a mile/2200m type which excuses her poor winning strike-rate to some degree. Whatever the case, her trained Kris Lees has found her the ideal race to add to her tally – and she’s fit and in form too. King Cornelius is back from 2450m to 2020m but that should worry him too much. He’s another fit and in-form horse. Ditto for Paddy’s Van who is a last start track/distance winner.
Bet: Solarosa to win
RACE 7
Cabsav is a John Shelton trained gelding who has a respectable strike-rate of four wins, four seconds and three thirds from 24 starts. The son of Red Dazzler handed in one of his best runs for a while at his most recent outing, finishing third to the handy Andy in a very deep Open Handicap. Best of all, Cabsav is ‘one for one’ at the track/distance. Stablemate Another Spirit’s won two of four last prep; his first for Kosciuszko winner John Shelton. The Rockwell Scale and Beppe are players.
Bet: Cabsav to win
