Apparently putting ice-cream inside a roll-up turns it into a super crispy and ASMR-worthy treat. But does it really work?
You’ve probably seen the magic of a deep-fried ice-cream in a restaurant, and now we will show you how to make it in an air-fryer at home. Drizzled with a simple but special Caramilk sauce, this dessert will hit your nostalgia spot.
But recently, they’ve been going viral on TikTok for a different purpose, and it includes ice-cream and an ASMR-worthy shattering crunch.
So taste.com.au food experts decided to give it a go.
The roll-up + ice-cream duo: why’s everyone so obsessed?
When TikToker @goldisdream shared her guilty-pleasure snack with her followers, the mass obsession with roll-up-wrapped ice-cream began.
It turns out that when roll-ups are exposed to cold temperatures, like ice-cream, they transform into a super crispy and satisfying treat, and pair perfectly with a gooey, smooth ice-cream filling.
There’s no surprise why it went viral, because that crunch is NEXT LEVEL.
The roll-up and ice-cream trend: our verdict
Since the original video was made using the American version of roll-ups, we were sceptical about it working with our trusty Uncle Tobys Roll-Ups.
We’d seen that the Aussie roll-ups don’t contain enough sugar to crisp up to the extent of the US roll-ups. But in serious FOMO fashion, that wasn’t going to stop us from trying.
We’d seen other Australian creators try it with ordinary scooped ice-cream, and the crispiness just wasn’t there.
So, we wrapped up a Mango Weis bar (which is icier than tub ice-cream) and hoped that the ASMR magic would happen.
