A man on parole for a brawl where he stomped on one man’s head and belted another with a walking stick until it broke has been jailed again for violence – this time against a child.
Robert Lionel Landers, 30, received a 12-month prison term in October 2022 for three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm for the brawl assaults.
Five months later, he punched a 15-year-old girl while he was drinking at a house in Gracemere.
Police prosecutor Courtney Brown told Rockhampton Magistrates Court on June 9 that the victim child was small in stature.
She said Landers’ criminal record showed he had a “propensity” for violence including the three assault occasioning bodily harm convictions from the brawl.
Ms Brown said during the brawl, Landers punched and stomped on the head of a 62-year-old male who had been knocked over by Landers’s co-offender and was lying on his back when Landers assaulted him.
“The 62-year-old was trying to intervene in the fight,” she said.
She said Landers even left the man alone for a short period and returned to stomp on his head some more.
Ms Brown said Landers also punched another person in the brawl, knocking them to the ground.
“(He) then assaulted that victim using a walking stick until the walking stick breaks,” she said.
Ms Brown said Landers’ criminal record also included a conviction for punching someone who ‘bumped’ into him on a stairwell and another assault occasioning bodily harm while in company.
Magistrate Grace Kalhert said Landers’ behaviour on this occasion was “absolutely disgraceful”.
Landers pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and was sentenced to 10 months prison, cumulative on the 12-month prison term he received in October.
He was granted immediate parole eligibility.
