The state government says the Shepparton site for the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership is expected to open in July.
The academy will aim to deliver teaching excellence and advanced professional learning for high-performing teachers in government, Catholic and independent schools and is part of a $33.8 million Victorian Government initiative in which it will establish seven regional centres, in Bairnsdale, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mildura, Moe and Shepparton.
“The Shepparton site of the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership is currently being built at 17 Sobraon St, Shepparton, and is due to open by Term 3,” Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership chief executive Marcia Devlin said.
“Establishing seven regional academy centres, including one in Shepparton, will increase equity of access to professional learning for Victorian teachers and school leaders, and help lift the quality of teaching across the state.
“The site will bring a world-leading professional learning facility to Shepparton, offering local teachers and school leaders opportunities to collaborate, learn and develop new skills and educational approaches that lead to better learning outcomes for regional and rural students,” Dr Devlin said.
The academy said each centre would be supported by local teams that understand the needs of the school communities across all three sectors.
The Shepparton centre will be in the former Centrelink building and is predicted to open by Term 3, which starts on Monday, July 10.
