Exciting developments continue at Verge and Eden Street Sporting Complex, with the $10 million upgrades to support the thriving sports community in our region.
Recently, Kempsey Shire Council put the verge 1 Sporting Field Master Plan on exhibition, sparking curiosity about the progress of the Verge and Eden Street Project.
The project remains on track although there has been a delay in delivering the netball pavilion. Building in a significant flood zone is a tricky balancing act. The netball pavilion plans have had to be revisited due to changes in the planning regulations made by the NSW Government after the Lismore floods. This will be the third design undertaken. These new plans will then go through the necessary processes with the NSW Government.
Council shares the frustration of the Macleay Netball Association and the netball clubs and is working closely with them to come up with a new design that can overcome these challenges and meet the needs of the netball community.
There are still funds in place to deliver the netball pavilion project through the existing grant.
Separate to the netball pavilion, the new multipurpose pavilion project is being finalised. It will be located on the site of the old cricket nets and was designed by the Council in consultation with the local sporting clubs to ensure that the pavilion meets their current and future needs. Tenders for the construction of that pavilion will be announced in the coming weeks.
The detailed designs that are currently on exhibition for the Verge 1 Sporting Field were funded using a fraction of the funds from the Verge and Eden Street project. The master plan designs were always a part of this project and listed as one of the deliverables in the original funding agreement.
On the other hand, the delivery of the master plan is not funded at this stage, however future funding is significantly more likely with detailed, community approved plans in place. All of these projects are part of the Macleay Valley Sports Strategy.
The designs for Verge 1 Sporting Field are now on display for public viewing. To provide feedback, head to ksc.pub/verge1
