Unleash Collinda last night added the Geelong 400m track record to his Healesville 300m and 350m track record runs, winning a 4th/5th Grade race in 21.995 for trainer Jason Thompson.
Sent out a long odds-on favourite with greyhound betting sites at -500, Unleash Collinda wasn’t the best to begin from box two, but quickly took control of the race to win running away by 5.07 lengths.
The record run took 0.015 off Aston Bolero’s previous record of 21.01.
Aston Bolero’s Geelong 400m track record time had stood since August 2016 prior to last night’s effort.
Coincidentally, Aston Bolero was also trained by Jason Thompson when he claimed the record in 2016.
Unleash Collinda now holds three current track records.
The son of Beat Unleashed and Audacious Bell set the Healesville 300m track record at 16.06 in December 2022.
He followed that record run up the straight by setting the 350m Healesville track record at 18.64 in February 2023.
Geelong 4/5th Grade 400m – Unleash Collinda (21.99) T: Jason Thompson
Remarkably, last night’s record run by Unleash Collinda now gives Jason Thompson-trained greyhounds three of the five Geelong track records.
In addition to Unleash Collinda’s 400m track record, Jason Thompson trained Black Magic Opal to run the 460m track record of 25.11 in 2013 when winning the 2013 Group 2 Geelong Gold Cup final.
In April 2022, Thompson trained Collinda Lady to set new figures for the Geelong 680m distance, winning in 36.69.
Unleash Collinda is a twice Group 2 placed, three-time Group 2 finalist, having finished runner-up in the 2023 Group 2 Ballarat Cup, and the 2023 Group 2 Shepparton Cup.
He also made the finals of the 2022 Group 2 Healesville Cup, and the 2022 Group 3 Capalaba Cup.
Unleash Collinda has had 40 starts for 25 wins and nine placings, earning $151,450 in prizemoney for breeder and owner Stephanie Tyler.
