Two people were taken to hospital after a five-vehicle smash on the M42 in Warwickshire. Emergency crews were alerted to the crash on the southbound carriageway just after Junction 10, for Tamworth and the A5, at 6.35am today (June 15).
A van and a lorry were understood to have been involved in the collision which caused two lanes to be closed and long delays for several hours. West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene.
“On arrival, crews discovered five vehicles had been involved in a collision and there were five patients,” a spokesperson said. “A man and woman were treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious

“Both were conveyed to Good Hope Hospital for further treatment. Three other patients were discharged at the scene.” At its peak, the lane closures caused around six miles of queuing traffic stretching back to just past the Leicestershire border.
The closures were lifted around 9am, but normal road conditions did not resume until around 10am. A post on the traffic information website Inrix had said: “Long delays, two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M42 Southbound after J10 A5 Watling Street (Tamworth).
“Camera shows lanes one and two (of two) are closed and traffic is using the hard shoulder to filter past.”
