Two of our region’s golf courses held their respective opens on the weekend with the Town of 1770 and the BITS Golf Clubs hosting the top championships.
The BITS Club, which saw a 26-hole open take place on the 13 hole course, would see Yeppoon’s Izaak Jensen take home the top title.
Jensen would fire a five-under-par 99 to take home the men’s open championship.
Ray Foster would come in as the runner up by three strokes, but his special moment came in the form of an Albatross on the seventh hole, which is a par five.
Further south the Town of 1770 held their respective men’s and women’s opens across the weekend.
The nine-hole course threw up a par 68 for the competitors with Rockhampton’s Tim McMaster taking out the championship.
McMaster would score a 3-under 65, winning by just one stroke to Jensen who would go on to win the BITS Open.
The ladies championship would finally be taken out by Linzi McBean (Gladstone).
McBean would win by one stroke as well, defeating Emu Park’s June Wills who finished runner up on countback.
