People have been leaving heart-felt messages after the death of a popular horse who lived in a field at a beauty spot near Cheltenham. Charlie horse was well-known to families who would walk and cycle down Chargrove Lane, Shurdington.
A note at the gate to the field where Charlie was a well-loved sight says she was put down. it says: “It is with great sadness that Charlie horse was put to sleep late on 4th June.
“Thank you to her many friends who stopped to talk to her and made her feel the special Charlie horse she was. We miss her.”

Chargrove Lane is a hidden rural idyll between Up Hatherley and Cheltenham, linking the A46 Shurdington Road with Up Hatherley Way. It runs alongside many fields with popular footpaths across fields towards Shurdington village and Badgeworth.
A number of messages have been left to Charlie horse. One, signed by Lucy and Jack, reads: “Run wild, run free. We all miss you Charlie.”
Another says: “Charlie, thank you for giving us so much pleasure. You were such a beauty.
“My brother and I had named you ‘Jingle Bells’, we came to feed you carrots and apples. You became my good friend, we had a special bond.
“I am sorry you are no longer in the field. I will miss not seeing you there. You are a shining star, up n the sky for me.”
