A former North Queensland Cowboy is banking on country music transforming the Townsville CBD into party central on Saturday night. Read how.
Flinders Lane owner Martin Locke, a former hard-running prop who played five seasons for the Cowboys, said he was expecting a terrific turnout for a free concert featuring rising North Queensland country music star Luke Geiger as part of a “double dose of cowboy action” on Saturday night.
“This will be our first real foray into larger-scale live music events in the laneway, which is exciting,” Mr Locke said on Thursday.
With the catchcry “taking requests, not breaks”, Geiger and his increasingly popular band would be performing as part of The Long Game in Flinders Lane.
Mr Locke said The Long Game was aimed at generating and retaining atmosphere and activity in the central business district around home games and other events at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
“Luke is a talented bloke and has a great following and he just keeps on playing, which is perfect for The Long Game event,” he said.
“There’s a real buzz around town about the show and we’re excited to see Flinders Lane brought to life this weekend and hopefully that flows out and on to other CBD nightlife traders.”
Geiger’s career is exploding after recently making the brave decision to turn his back on two decades of construction work in favour of picking up a guitar full time, coming off shows in Bloomsbury, Mackay, and Mount Isa in the last two weeks alone.
“We’re pumped to be coming to Townsville and be part of one of the first big live music events in Flinders Lane,” Geiger said.
“I still pinch myself every day that this is actually my job.”
