Tottenham vs Brentford LIVE commentary: Spurs aim for Europe while Bees begin life without Toney

Tottenham host Brentford in the opening fixture of the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season, exclusively live on talkSPORT. 

Spurs will be out to secure themselves a place in Europe, with a seventh-placed finish achieving Europa Conference League qualification.

Ryan Mason’s side will be desperate to end the season positively after having a disappointing, controversy-filled year so far. 

But it’s the Bees who are aiming to pile on the misery for Spurs by finishing strongly after securing a top-ten finish in the top flight. 

However, they will have to do it without top scorer Ivan Toney who has now started his eight-month ban from all footballing activity due to breaching the FA’s betting rules.

Tottenham vs Brentford: Team news

The hosts look set to continue with Fraser Forster in goal, as Hugo Lloris continues his recovery from a hip injury. 

Eric Dier missed the defeat to Aston Villa but may be back for this one but the same can’t be said for Rodrigo Bentancur and Ryan Sessegnon who are ruled out for the season. 

Brentford meanwhile will be without Toney who has been banned from football for eight months. 

Toney’s absence will be a huge loss for the Bees but they will be encouraged by their win last weekend with a front three of Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade. 

As for injuries, Keane Lewis-Potter, Pontus Jansson and Christian Norgaard are all out for the remaining two games of the season.

Toney released a statement following the announcement that he will be banned for breaching the FA’s betting rules.

He tweeted: “Today I have received notification of my eight-month ban from football following a hearing before an FA Regulatory Commission that took place yesterday.

“I am naturally disappointed that I will be unable to play for the next eight months.

“The written reasons for the Commission’s decision have not yet been published, so I make no further comment at this point other than to thank my family and friends, Brentford FC and our fans for their continued support, through what has been a very difficult time.

“I now focus on returning to play the game I love next season.”
