Additional information
- An Optus-led consortium will deploy 68, 000 smart water meters in a major upgrade to Toowoomba Regional Councils water infrastructure.
- Without the in-house capability or technology to devise a new platform for managing its water infrastructure, Toowoomba Regional Council partnered with the Optus Consortium to develop an end-to-end smart solution which embraces IoT and data.
- The project is the first telco-led consortium to be awarded a contract for such an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solution and is led by Optus and includes partners IOTA, ETS Electrical Services, GreenBe and M2M Telecom to deliver the solution.
- Deployment leverages Optus NB-IoT network, IOTAs blockchain-powered IoT devices, GreenBes user experience platform, installation services from ETS Deployment Services and more.
- Residents can set water usage targets and monitor their water usage data in near real-time through a web portal and app. Residents also receive early notifications of any leaks in the pipe network, reducing the chance of unexpected bills.
- Once completed, the smart meters will enable the Council to manage the water network more efficiently and increase operational transparency. This will provide cost savings to residents and the Council.
