Matthew Campbell – Betr
QLD OAKS – AFFAIRE A SUIVRE – Race 8 No.2 (Eagle Farm)
Had a torrid run in the Australasian Oaks and she kept on going so the extra distance with a colder ride won’t be an issue. Impossible to ignore the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable.
MORETON CUP – QUANTICO – Race 7 No.4 (Eagle Farm)
Should have won first-up as we all saw and going back up to 1200m second-up will make it less painful when he atones. Been here once for one win and has won twice second-up.
WINTER CUP – AL AABIR – Race 6 No.9 (Rosehill)
Was a certainty beaten last start and his two runs at 2400 metres have been great. Goes up a grade, but as a result drops back to just 53kg and a senior rider in Kerrin McEvoy takes over.
BEST – LEGIO TEN – Race 4 No.9 (Flemington)
Had been racing in some strong races last year as a juvenile and then resumed gelded at Bendigo a fortnight ago. Came from last to round up the field easily and still win with plenty in hand.
VALUE – FLASH FEELING – Race 7 No.10 (Flemington)
He was on the quick back up and beaten by less than two lengths by Daytona Bay and Altivo here two weeks back. That was at 1800m and now gets to his pet distance of 2000m.
Don Harley – TAB.com.au
QLD OAKS – AFFAIRE A SUIVRE – Race 8 No.2 (Eagle Farm)
Big scopey filly that the stable believe is fit and ready to back up Australasian Oaks success. It helps having the favourite Fireburn scratched as well.
MORETON CUP – BALLER – Race 7 No.1 (Eagle Farm)
A two-time Moreton Cup winner already. Beat Roch ‘N’ Horse last spring in a Group 2. Tony Gollan bullish despite ordinary campaign, and I like Mark Zahra back aboard.
WINTER CUP – HERMAN HESSE – Race 6 No.5 (Rosehill)
Back in distance to 2400m where it placed in the Mornington Cup two starts back and has been a previous winner. That win was at the Rosehill track and carried 7kg more that day.
BEST – TUTTA LA VITA – Race 1 No.8 (Randwick)
Plenty to like about this daughter of The Autumn Sun with great pedigree. Stormed home to run second last start, but the 1300m should suit.
VALUE – POSEIDON RULER – Race 3 No.3 (Rosehill)
Some big early bets landed with us as soon as markets went up. Was trimmed $21 into $9.50 in no time. Caught the eye coming from last at Randwick last weekend.
Sam Phillips – Sportsbet
QLD OAKS – PROSCENIUM ARCH – Race 8 No.12 (Eagle Farm)
Gets a perfect draw for Tim Clark and was impressive last start when back, wide and then wider before running on well. Figures were good there, will be in the finish here.
MORETON CUP – PRINE OF BOOM – Race 7 No.2 (Eagle Farm)
This race is all about tempo. If Tim Clark can get some form of control in front or take a trail and they don’t go mad in front, he’ll be hard to run down. If they fly early.
WINTER CUP – AL AABIR – Race 6 No.9 (Rosehill)
Was a certainty beat last start. Gets a jockey upgrade here, Chris Waller loves to be positive from low draws and should prove too good. One of the better bets on Saturday.
BEST – FOXY FRIDA – Race 5 No.2 (Eagle Farm)
Has a clear ratings edge here. Billy Egan riding well, tempo should be strong enough to park behind them and run over the top late. Special mention for Red Card in the last, too. Will be winning.
VALUE – CASTILLIAN – Race 6 No.2 (Flemington)
Can settle closer here for Dean Yendall. Peaked after a few runs last prep. Just needs some luck at the right time to figure in the finish on Saturday.
Joshua Bell – Ladbrokes
QLD OAKS – RENAISSANCE WOMAN – Race 8 No.3 (Eagle Farm)
Rounded them up well at the Sunshine Coast second-up and was excellent right through the line in The Roses last start to beat all bar Fireburn. That filly has now been scratched.
MORETON CUP – QUANTICO – Race 7 No.4 (Eagle Farm)
Closed out his autumn campaign when beaten just under three lengths behind Artorius in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes. Was beaten a lip in the Ortensia Stakes at Scone last start and will appreciate 1200m.
WINTER CUP – SPIRIT RIDGE – Race 6 No.2 (Rosehill)
Placed in both the Launceston and Hobart Cups to close out his last campaign. Was beaten just over two lengths when resuming in the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup where he found the line well.
BEST – KIPSBAY – Race 7 No.2 (Rosehill)
Was a dominant three length winner at Eagle Farm first-up on a good track before a couple of below par runs after that. He’s been a consistent performer, finishing in the top two in six of 11 starts.
VALUE – AFRICAN DAISY – Race 9 No.16 (Rosehill)
Was a good barrier trial winner leading into her first-up assignment where she finished third, beaten two lengths in a benchmark 72 at Warwick Farm. Only carries 54.5kg and has a good barrier.
Kevin Kemp – Pointsbet
QLD OAKS – SAKURA GIRL – Race 8 No.7 (Eagle Farm)
Kiwi having its second run in Australia following a brave run out in front in The Roses two weeks ago. Should again find the front from barrier 21 and prove hard to run down in the straight.
MORETON CUP – QUANTICO – Race 7 No.4 (Eagle Farm)
Had traffic issues last start at Scone and was charging to the post when clear. Should relish a genuine speed up front in this race and be finishing over the top of them late.
WINTER CUP – HERMAN HESSE – Race 6 No.5 (Rosehill)
Outclassed last start at Flemington but finds a much easier field here. Comes from the right stable for these staying contests and the booking of gun apprentice Dylan Gibbons is an added bonus.
BEST – GOLDEN BOOM – Race 9 No.2 (Eagle Farm)
Keen in the run and had traffic issues in the straight last start and still proved too good for them. Ryan Maloney is in great form at the moment and should put him forward into a good spot from gate five.
VALUE – SPANISH KISS – Race 7 No.17 (Flemington)
Sustained a long run from the rear of the field when first-up over 1600m. May need another run under the belt before showing his best but will certainly relish the rise in trip to the 2000m.
Chris Gregory – Playup
QLD OAKS – RENAISSANCE WOMAN – Race 8 No.3 (Eagle Farm)
Renaissance Woman is definitely the horse to beat. Can see her trailing three wide with cover entering the straight and if the tempo has suited, she should finish over the top.
MORETON CUP – PRINCE OF BOOM – Race 7 No.2 (Eagle Farm)
Surely gets a soft lead and the race looks to be for the taking. His win in the Victory Stakes two back is more than good enough to be winning this.
WINTER CUP – HERMAN HESSE – Race 6 No.5 (Rosehill)
Loves and needs the dry conditions and loves the track and distance. Opened at $10 and snapped up quickly, now into $5.50 and still looks a great bet.
BEST – BRIGANTINE – Race 6 No.10 (Eagle Farm)
Great win last start and that form has been franked with the runner-up winning convincingly at his next start. Opened at $6 and still great value at the $4.80 on offer.
VALUE – VERSILIA – Race 3 No.12 (Flemington)
The query is what will be the right side down the Flemington straight but at the $26 opening quote. Was worth a play as drawn barrier 17. Currently $16 and still great value each-way.
David Mackay – TopSport
QLD OAKS – SAKURA GIRL – Race 8 No.7 (Eagle Farm)
Liked her run The Roses, only faltered in the dying stages after working hard to get to the lead, has the ability to take this out. Barrier draw is the only concern.
MORETON CUP – PRINCE OF BOOM – Race 7 No.2 (Eagle Farm)
Drops back in class after the Doomben 10,000, finishing a few lengths off Giga Kick. Carries less weight, gets a positive jockey switch and an extra week break.
WINTER CUP – DESERT ICON – Race 6 No.1 (Rosehill)
Will be peaking in fitness now after three runs. Extra distance will suit here, Brett Prebble steered his last two wins late last year and everything aligns here for a win.
BEST – PARTY FOR ONE – Race 3 No.3 (Flemington)
Blake Shinn gave her a peach of a ride last outing. Will look to continue the form here after a three-week break. Not much to trouble her in this race, has the winning form and fitness.
VALUE – DEFICIT – Race 9 No.3 (Rosehill)
Looked strong making ground in traffic to finish fifth when resuming, drops in class and will be fitter. Good record second-up and think this race suits.
Clint Wallis – Neds
QLD OAKS – PROSCENIUM ARCH – Race 8 No.12 (Eagle Farm)
Looked to have her chance in the Australasian Oaks behind Affaire A Suivre two starts back before getting stuck back and wide in The Roses last start where she looked to work home well.
MORETON CUP – QUANTICO – Race 7 No.4 (Eagle Farm)
Think he would be in most of the blackbooks in the country after his resuming run at Scone. Had zero luck in the straight before getting out with 50m go and was a certainty beaten.
WINTER CUP – HERMAN HESSE – Race 6 No.5 (Rosehill)
Poor last start in the Andrew Ramsden but the two placings prior in the Yarra Valley and Mornington Cups look decent form for a race like this. Yet to finish outside the placings in three attempts at Rosehill.
BEST – GREY RIVER – Race 6 No.4 (Flemington)
Finished just over a length behind a subsequent Group 1 winner two starts back and was only grabbed in the shadows of the post last start in the Proud Miss Stakes. Step out to 1400m looks perfect.
VALUE – OCEAN TREATY – Race 5 No.8 (Eagle Farm)
Went back from a wide draw first-up and only got clear air in the latter stages. Has a very strong second-up record and also races well at 1600m. She’s got a much better chance than the market suggests.
Zach Littman – Bet Nation
QLD OAKS – RENAISSANCE WOMAN – Race 8 No.3 (Eagle Farm)
Drawn perfectly in six and will look to sit just off the speed and finish over the top of them. Her last start will give punters enough confidence to follow her in, whilst the step out to the 2200m is another positive.
MORETON CUP – QUANTICO – Race 7 No.4 (Eagle Farm)
Second-up, out to 1200m and the ideal draw will only add to this horses chances. The horse was powerful through the line first-up and has a strong record on the good going.
WINTER CUP – DESERT ICON – Race 6 No.1 (Rosehill)
The top-weight Desert Icon has had a consistent prep without winning. Fourth-up and stepping out to the 2400m, he should be ready to peak. Right in the mix.
BEST – JIMMY THE BEAR – Race 8 No.7 (Flemington)
Despite the wide draw, look for Jimmy to settle with cover three-wide and use every inch of the Flemington straight. Two from two second-up and stepping up to the 1400m only add to his chances.
VALUE – ANOTHER ONE – Race 8 No.6 (Rosehill)
Huge run last start in the Wagga Gold Cup, only being beaten 0.4 lengths from Wicklow after being vulnerable late. Has drawn well and Danny Beasley makes the trip to the city which is a positive sign.
James Thomas – Palmerbet
QLD OAKS – SO DAZZLING – Race 8 No.4 (Eagle Farm)
It will pay to put a pen through last start where she was first-up off a freshen. Instead, look to her second placing in the Australian Oaks in April. She is in the right camp and Craig Williams takes the ride.
MORETON CUP – QUANTICO – Race 7 No.4 (Eagle Farm)
The 15 starts for seven wins is a fair record and five of those have come over 1200m. Ran on well first-up at Scone and he will only be improved for that effort.
WINTER CUP – AL AABIR – Race 6 No.9 (Rosehill)
Has settled towards the rear in his last two starts but should get a lovely run in transit here from barrier three. He was desperately unlucky last start and I think he can atone here with only 53kg.
BEST – KIPSBAY – Race 7 No.2 (Rosehill)
Won four in a row including a strong first-up effort at Eagle Farm before suffering back-to-back defeats but there have been genuine excuses. He should be back to his best here.
VALUE – I’VE BEAN TRYIN’ – Race 9 No.5 (Rosehill)
Consistent galloper with six wins in 15 starts including two starts back at Benchmark 78 level. Led them up last start at Gosford in a hot race and stayed on well to finish only two lengths off Palmetto.
Matthew Steed – Bet365
QLD OAKS – RENAISSANCE WOMAN – Race 8 No.3 (Eagle Farm)
Loved the way she attacked the line last start at only her third run this prep in what was a great trial for this. Think the draw might enable her to take a reasonably handy position in the run.
MORETON CUP – QUANTICO – Race 7 No.4 (Eagle Farm)
Unlucky at Scone when resuming, now gets to his preferred trip and should get a good run from the gate. The booking of James McDonald is significant and he looks well-suited here.
WINTER CUP – HERMAN HESSE – Race 6 No.5 (Rosehill)
Looked to be going well before his last start failure in the Andrew Ramsden. This looks more suitable and he races well here should be in the firing line throughout and take beating.
BEST – ROBUSTO – Race 9 No.14 (Rosehill)
Liked the way he has finished off his two runs back from a spell. Should be nearing his peak now and think the step up in trip will suit. Will take plenty of holding out.
VALUE – POSEIDON RULER – Race 3 No.3 (Rosehill)
Hard to miss his run last week when hitting the line hard over what looked an unsuitable trip. Much better suited over this trip and as long as they can make ground think he can have a say in the finish here.
