North Cairns Tigers have claimed the ‘ultimate redemption’ at Fretwell Park against South Cairns Cutters.
Sydney AFL and AFLW players Callum Mills, Justin McInerney, Errol Gulden, Lucy McEvoy, Cynthia Hamilton and Bella Smith have joined forces with drag queen Joyce Maynge for the club’s new Pride campaign ahead of the Swan’s round 15 clash with St Kilda.
The Tigers came out strong in the first half to lead by 21 points at the main break with young gun Heidi Talbot showing her class early.
The Cutters slowed the Tigers scoring down in the second half, closing the gap to nine points midway through the third quarter.
Under 17’s Lauren Davon had a day to remember in her first seniors game of football, kicking two goals and being the equal leading goal scorer on the ground with Heidi Talbot.
South Cairns had plenty of momentum in the final quarter but couldn’t capitalise on the scoreboard.
After half time, the Cutters kick 2.7 compared to 1.2 for the Tigers, to fall short by 10 points.
It is the second win of the season for the Tigers who will take on ladder leaders Manunda Hawks in round 10 on July 1.
South Cairns: 1.2 2.3 2.8 4.10 (34)
North Cairns: 3.0 6.0 6.1 7.2 (44)

Around the grounds, the Cairns City Lions defeated Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs by 55 points at Holloways Beach Sport Complex.
