A shuttered elementary school that is more than a century old will soon find new life as a self-storage facility. The Erie Zoning Hearing Board unanimously approved a variance to allow a self-storage facility to operate at the Irving School, 2310 Plum St., east of Washington Park in Pennsylvania. The Erie School Board is now clear to approve the sale of the 60,600-square-foot building to Erie-based Secured Storage. Company owner Dan Fiore had to get a variance as a condition for the school district to consider a sale. The school district has been trying to sell the elementary school named after author Washington Irving and built in 1897, since the district closed it in 2012 because of declining enrollment.
