A new achievement in the short but successful career of the “Android”. Erling Haaland was chosen as the best young player in the Premier League, after his great season at Manchester City. The Norwegian was also recognized as the best player of the season in the first division of English football.
The 22-year-old forward, who arrived at the beginning of the season from Borussia Dortmund, thus became the first player in history to win both awards in one season, thanks to the 36 goals he conceded during the seasonmaking him the Premier’s top scorer, surpassing the record of 34 held by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer.
“I am honored to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season.. Thank you to everyone who voted for me,” Haaland told the citizens’ press team, adding that it was “an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the Trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me. These awards would not have been possible without my incredible teammates, the coach and all the staff at the club who help me”.
Halaand became the third player to receive the best player award in a row, after Kevin de Bruyne (2019/20 and 2021/22) and Ruben Dias (2020/21).
Thanks to the Norwegian’s offensive contribution, Manchester City won its fifth Premier League title in six seasons and is in the Champions League final, where it will face Inter Milan on June 10.
