NEWPORT – An investigation that began in 2017 in Newport has culminated in the apprehension of 37-year-old Joseph Brushnefski in Goshen, IN, on charges related to child pornography.
According to a press release from Newport Police Chief Stephen A. Lee, the Newport Police Department began an investigation into suspected Possession of Child Sexual Abuse images at a residence in the town.
Newport PD investigators and members of the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force acquired a search warrant and seized several electronic devices from the home. However, due to technological limitations in 2017, investigators were reportedly not able to access the devices for forensic examination.
In 2023, Newport Police obtained additional search warrants, and in conjunction with the Grafton County Sheriff’s Department’s Cyber Crimes Unit, examined the seized electronic evidence using updated forensic tools. At this time, “critical evidence” was recovered and a warrant for arrest was issued for Brushnefski.
He was tracked down by investigators to a location in the State of Indiana by the Goshen (IN) Police Department. Brushnefski is being charged with Class A Felony Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Images, as well as Class B Felony Failure to Register as a Sexual Offender. He was transported to the Kosciusko County Jail where he awaits extradition back to New Hampshire.
Reportedly, the Newport Police Department was assisted in the investigation by ICAC, the Grafton County Sheriff’s Department, the Warsaw (IN) Police Department, and the Goshen (IN) Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing at this time, and additional charges are expected. Individuals with additional information are encouraged to contact Detective Alexander R. Martin at 603-863-3232, or via email to [email protected].
