Located on the outskirts of Guildford on the cusp of the gorgeous Surrey Hills, is a pub oozing with charm, character and fabulous food. The Bulls Head Inn is an Edwardian pub with seven bedrooms in the idyllic village of Ewhurst.
The rural Waverley neighbourhood near Cranleigh is home to a village hall, bowling club, St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church and a cricket club, and not much more. It is a peaceful village and the pub is a welcoming hub of the community.
Situated on the roadside of The Street, The Bulls Head Inn looks just like a typical pub from the outside but it offers far more than that what you’d expect as the food is amazing. The menu features classic dishes such as fish and chips, burgers and steak, but everything is executed with a sophisticated twist thanks to head chef Charles Conroy.

Chef Conroy strives to use local produce wherever possible on the menu. The meat and vegetables are sourced from within 15 miles of the inn to ensure high levels of freshness and quality. chef Conroy and his sous chef Jon Orban have formed strong relationships with local butchers, fishmongers and vegetable suppliers to showcase the best of British.
Among the highlights on the menu is the popular Bull’s Head Bacon Cheeseburger, which comes fully loaded with hot, salty fries and creamy, crunchy slaw (£16.45). Another much-loved main is the salmon dish on the dinner menu (£17.95).
Pan-fried to ensure a super crispy skin, the pink fish is perfectly cooked, moist and bursting with flavour due to a gently coated harissa rub. It is served with a mound of dreamy Mediterranean risotto, patiently cooked for the ultimate indulgence, and finished off with a pretty parmesan crisp sitting on top.
Everything is presented beautifully, especially the salads. The Surrey goat’s cheese salad (£7.95) certainly has the wow factor and is bursting with bright colours. Served in a deep terracotta pot, the fresh leaves are mixed with pickled beetroot, silky cheese, crunchy seeds, carrot ribbons, edible flowers and drenched in the most delicious pesto and mustard vinaigrette.
Diners can choose to sit inside in the bright and inviting restaurant area next to the bar, or outside on the garden terrace, dotted with picnic tables and umbrellas. The pub has its own car park too.
As well as being dedicated to using local produce, the inn also aims to be as plastic-free and zero-waste as possible. Sustainability is something the venue takes very seriously, from its packaging to the choice of toiletries in its hotel rooms.
The stunning Bulls Head Inn sign was created and hand-painted by a local artist, and its beer and gin have been produced locally. The flowers in the restaurant area were also created by a local florist.
The Bulls Head Inn said on its website: “We believe that we are more than just an Inn. But a place to help our community which is warm and friendly, whether for a coffee, a delicious Sunday roast or a glass of wine in the evening.”
