A teenager who works for a Gladstone alumina company crashed his car into a power pole during the early hours of the morning while extremely drunk and not supervised as a learner driver.
Ethan Kyle Luhrs, 18, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on May 9 to drink driving and driving as a learner while unsupervised.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Tanya Griffiths said that about 3am on April 7, Luhrs was driving his Commodore southbound on Beezley Street, Glen Eden, when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed it into a power pole.
The court heard there was a male passenger in the car but he could not supervise Luhrs due to being SPER suspended.
Luhrs, who was on a zero blood alcohol limit as a learner driver, returned a reading of .159.
Sgt Griffiths said it was fortunate that no-one was “seriously hurt or even worse” in the crash.
The court heard Luhrs had no traffic history.
A self-represented Luhrs told Acting Magistrate Mary Buchanan he was working for Queensland Alumina Limited.
Before handing down penalty, Ms Buchanan said Luhrs’ driving on the morning of the crash endangered himself, his passenger and other road users.
Ms Buchanan fined Luhrs $800 and disqualified him from driving for six months.
