A sleeping resident allegedly woke up to find a teen intruder armed with a hammer in their home who threatened to “smash” them before taking off with their car.
Mount Isa police responded to reports of an unknown male offender armed with a hammer entering a home in Townview about 12.15am on May 19.
Police said the 27-year-old resident had been asleep in bed when they were allegedly woken by the offender, who raised the hammer above his head and demanded the resident give him items or he would “smash” them.
He allegedly took a wallet and a set of keys from the bedside table and told the resident not to follow him before stealing the resident’s white 2022 Toyota Corolla.
Police received multiple calls in relation to the stolen vehicle reportedly driving in excess of 100km/h, speeding through red lights and conducting burnouts.
The white Toyota Corolla was located by police in a park on Prosser St, Pioneer at 12.45am.
They also located the alleged offender and a hammer and shifting spanner inside the vehicle.
A 17-year-old Mornington teenager was arrested and charged with one count of enter dwelling with intent at night uses/threatens violence while armed, one count of armed robbery, one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle, and one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle.
He is set to appear before the Mount Isa Children’s Court.
