- Teachers from Aquinas College in Gold Coast stood down
Two teachers at an elite private school have been stood down after they were allegedly caught having sex in a classroom by a student.
The male and female educators from Aquinas College at Southport on Queensland’s Gold Coast were suspended following the incident on Tuesday.
It is alleged the Catholic school teachers were caught on school grounds by a student. An investigation is underway into their conduct.
School principal Marcus Richardson wrote to parents on Thursday afternoon to inform them about ‘the behaviour of two staff members while on school grounds’.
‘This matter is being treated seriously and an investigation is currently underway,’ Mr Richardson wrote.
‘Please know that we cannot make any public comment on this matter while the investigation is carried out.
‘The priority of the college remains the safety and wellbeing of students and staff members. If you have any concerns about this matter, please contact me.’
Aquinas College has about 1,200 students, with parents paying up to $5,700 a year for their child to attend the oldest co-educational Catholic school on the Gold Coast.
The college, which was founded in 1964, has been attended by the likes of former Miss Universe Australia Jesinta Campbell and convicted career criminal Peter Foster.
